Our interiors division is looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer for its Silicon Valley Tech Center in Sunnyvale, CA. This role is in the New Entrants division focused on the interiors of electric vehicle customers.

Reports To:Functionally: Program Development Leader (PDL), Hierarchically: Customer Engineering Director


Position Summary:

The Senior Product Design Engineer leads the product design team in a customer program. He or she is in charge of the complete design in compliance with feasibility of product and process, cost, delivery, performance and people objectives (within PMS requirements)



Scope of work & time frame

- He or she goes from concept design received from Concept Engineering to Design Freeza at tool kick of. In further program phases including serial life the SPDE is in charge of the design of ECRs

- Build the internal design schedule to match with the customer master schedule

- All tasks are done with the appropriate tools and in compliance with the PMS

work-packages, FES standards & 7-Quality-Basics, in support of functional

milestone “time to pass” objective.

- Monthly report summary of design progress (on PRC-template), including

corresponding action plans.

- Capitalize experience on the design through lessons learnt process

Product definition

- Lead completion of CAD to ensure compliance to requirements (acceptance of customer product specification including geometry convergence together with his or her design team on site and off shore

- Establish and manage the bill of materials within Faurecia PDM

- Follows up the design progress and enter all design related issues into a “single list of issues” to be shared with the on site and off shore design team

- Implement Faurecia standards and guidelines and manage potential conflicts with customer’s standards with PoC (internal deviation approval).

- Support risk management through robust design with compliance to product/process design standards (per KM plan)

- Check process feasibility of the product design (moulding, welding, assembly…)

- Controls DMU

CAD Methodology

·         Ensure that CAD models and drawings are meeting Faurecia and customer standards

·         The SPDE is responsible for the product CAD architecture

Cost Control

·         Work in compliance with CAD budget at program milestones

·         Responsible for CAD costs of internal, external and off shore resources

Customer relations

·         The SPDE is the Voice to the Customer in terms of Design and CAD

·         Communication within Faurecia Program Team and to the central technical functions

People management & development

·         Manage the Design team members functionally (including product design engineers (PDE), CAD engineers on site and off shore)

·         Coach & follow-up his/her team-members to reach performance.

·         Allocates the right level of resources to the design team on site and offshore to achieve program requirements

·         Supports the competencies development of the designers and their career development. 

·         Commitment to the highest ethical standards and willingness to adhere to Faurecia’s Code of Ethics and Code of Management.


The ideal candidate will have/be:

Knowledge / Skills:

·         Result oriented with strong written and oral communication skills

·         English required; customer’s language strongly preferred

·         Leadership and managerial skills

·         Knowledge of 7 Quality Basics

·         Able to work in a multicultural environment

Education / Experience:

-         Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technician or significant professional experience

-         Minimum 5 years of proven experience in design and development within an industrial environment, preferably on automotive interior parts.
