Our North American Country organization is looking for a Director, Labor Relations to be located in Auburn Hill, MI.
 
The role of the Labor Relations Director is to ensure strategic alignment amongst the regional divisions, identify opportunities and risks in the overall Faurecia / Labor relationship, and guide the region to effective employee relations.
 
The Labor Relations Director:
  • Manages the negotiation preparation with division management and senior leadership in preparing strategy and proposals to determine feasibility, cost, effects on operations and relationship to prevailing trends in the industry and the geographic area.
  • Develops and implements a broad, well-balanced and effective labor relations strategy, including developing and implementing union-free training and proactive, positive employee relations strategies to respond to union organizing.
  • Builds and maintains ongoing, long-term relationships between negotiating parties; advocate and champion a productive management/union working environment.
  • Develop standardized approach to contract language, negotiation preparation materials, labor costing model
  • Develop education materials and deliver appropriate training for HR Managers, HR Generalists and Site Management teams.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert and stays current on all new and proposed federal and state employment laws; guiding Division managers/leadership and HR in administering contracts and labor relation policies/practices that are in compliance with federal /state laws, organization policies/practices, and applicable collective bargaining agreements; provides insights on labor activities, manager capabilities, and innovative and preventative practices.
  • Independently manages and directs responses to union organizing activity and coordinates union election campaigns, including training of management personnel, interfacing with unions and NLRB, and litigating objections and ULP charges before the NLRB.
  • Research and respond to sophisticated and complex labor relations and employment law issues in a time sensitive manner.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of applicable labor and employment laws and regulations at the state and federal level, WARN, FLSA, FMLA and NLRA.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Ten (10) years’ experience negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements, including first chair experience in negotiations, labor arbitrations and grievance proceedings, dealing with labor and employment law matters, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business or related field required.
  • Law degree or Master’s degree in Labor Relations/Industrial Relations preferred.
  • Able to work in a Matrix environment with good influencing skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Global and cultural awareness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to travel 25% of the time.
